What is getting in the way of you finding quietness with God? Here are 12 questions to help you examine yourself. This list of questions is not all-inclusive. Add other questions to the list as needed or as directed by the Holy Spirit. You may choose to share or discuss your answers with others! The main purpose of this self-check is to help you identify and remove barriers to finding quietness with God.
1. What’s keeping me from finding quietness with God in my life – really?
2. Do I truly put forth consistent effort to unplug from noise and find quietness?
3. What do I need to stop doing or begin doing in order to make finding quietness more of a priority in my life?
4. How can I arrange or re-arrange my time or schedule to find quietness?
5. What distractions are most prevalent for me in my life? What am I easily distracted by?
6. What noises or distractions do I need to eliminate in my life?
7. Do I feel guilty for wanting time alone with God?
8. Have I rejected the invite to quietness as some of the Old Testament Israelites did in Isaiah 30?
9. Am I aware of the consequences of not spending quiet time with God? What have those consequences been for me?
10. What noisy thoughts, feelings, or messages do I think, feel, or tell myself that create internal noise or distraction for me?
11. Do I earnestly seek to live a quiet life and not as a busybody in the affairs of others?
12. What’s my plan for the next 7 days to begin pursuing more quietness with God and to continue doing so?
